Hot Hot Heat: A Weekend in LA

This week was a little out of the ordinary in San Francisco, with temps hitting the mid-80s. I was in heaven, and the only way it could have been better was if we hit 90. I love hot and humid weather like whoah, and while my love for SF runs deep, damn she cold. Seriously, I enjoyed every second of the warm weather this week, and even managed to sneak away to Ocean Beach to enjoy some sun (see the pic). But, I also realized I’m so conditioned to the San Franny chill that I insisted on carrying around a jacket with me anyway. Le sigh.

Ocean Beach during the heat wave!

So you can imagine that for my little southern soul, a weekend in LA is like a quick getaway to some tropical island. It’s always a treat to head down to SoCal and try to soak up some heat. In my mind this past weekend when I visited, it was summer. I wore shorts, packed a bathing suit, and was fully prepared to stroll around sans light jacket.

Welp, LA had other plans. First of all, I got to witness LA rain. This is a rare phenomenon that I can only compare to snowfall in the south: even the smallest bit of it astonishes residents, and it also makes them drive like fools. I also caught a sunset at Griffith Observatory–which I can’t recommend enough–but once the sun went down I was pretty excited to escape the chilly breeze and hop back in the car. Oh, and I did get to the beach…for about an hour, since it was unfortunately too cold and windy to really enjoy it yet. But I was at the beach! In a swimsuit!!

Where is everyone? Answer: somewhere warm.

Don’t get me wrong–I had an amazeballs weekend. I enjoy going to Los Angeles, and am super lucky to do so as often as I do. Honestly, I’d have a stellar weekend there even if it ended up being gloomy and overcast every hour of the day.

But for real LA, who do you think you are? SF? Plz warm up soon. K thnx.

Anyway, as usual I played tourist and pulled out my phone to take pics as often as possible. While I did spend some of the weekend lounging around with my dude (PIZZA DELIVERY OMG), we did go out and do some really fun stuff also. Enjoy the photos!

Fancy.

The Getty Villa was a great way to spend an afternoon. I’m not much of a museum person, and I usually resort to making fun of the weird stance that the sculptures have or their facial expressions or something (and don’t even get me started on herms, I mean wtf). But the architecture is really cool and designed to look like the ancient Roman country house, Villa dei Papiri in Italy. Ah, those Romans.

Heh.

Heh. Uranus.

Catching the sunset behind the hills. You can see the Hollywood sign, too!

Pretty amazing.

I’ve been to the Griffith Observatory a few times, and it’s always great, but this was by far the best sunset I’ve seen there! The city views are just spectacular. It’s a perfect spot to wander around and explore cool stuff inside, too.

Oh, and of course no travel in California is complete without a stop here:
